This all started out while creating the Fun with 3 Strings, 3 minutes, and a Triad Uber simple guitar course.
Am7 is the chord that got the show going. Play an A minor chord. Focus on the root note, that would be A. – 2 frets back is the 7th, that would be the note G.
So simply play the notes of an Am triad and occasionally drop back 2 frets from that A note and hit the 7th. Makes for a simple, but cool sounding lead guitar part.
The image above show the Am chord in several spots up the fret board of the guitar, using just 3 strings. The red dots are the Root notes. That would be the note A for the Am chord. The pinkish/purple dots are the 7th, the note G. This is very handy for playing simple lead guitar over an Am chord.
